EVACUATION
The Fire Regulatory reform (Fire Safety) Order came into force in October 2006. The new British Standards state that an acceptable level of fire safety should be achieved for all people in and around the building.
This new document is entitled BS9999-2008.
To date the Disability Discrimination Act has addressed less abled/disabled person's access to buildings but completely ignored their escape. The Lift Directive will state in future that all new lift installations will have to include evacuation chairs for each floor in a building.
Evacuation chairs are the most viable solution to the escape issue.
